Man by Man

- DAVID McCARTHY CRAIG GORDON

Was a Scottish Cup winner with the Jambos 14 years ago and played big part in victory here. First-half save from Nisbet’s header was world class. No chance at goal.

MICHAEL SMITH

The Northern Ireland international got team out of jail with crucial block to deny Magennis and was strong and composed in right-back area.

CRAIG HALKETT

Tynecastle skipper led by example. Solid and dependable at heart of defence and although outjumped by Doidge at equaliser he did well overall.

MIHAI POPESCU

Formed a strong defensive partnership with Halkett and read the game well. Judged to have fouled Newell for penalty and booked for pulling back Nisbet.

STEPHEN KINGSLEY

The former Swansea leftback wasn’t able to get forward as much as he would have liked but his priority was to curb Boyle’s effectiveness.

OLLY LEE

Went close with a shot from the edge of the box and always looked to get up to support his strikers before moving to right. Delivered the cross for the first goal.

7 Handed the holding role in the engine room and did well breaking up play and showing a real appetite for the battle before going off late on. Booked for foul on Boyle.

6 Used on the right to try to get at Doig in the early stages but didn’t see enough of the ball. Showed his quality when switched up front and scored opener.

ANDY HALLIDAY CRAIG WIGHTON JAMIE WALKER

Played just off striker Boyce initially then moved out a little wider on right but was unable to influence game as much as he’d have liked before going off injured.

5 Started on the left but moved inside before the break and was more effective in a central role before he was removed in a tactical switch early in second half.

JORDAN ROBERTS LIAM BOYCE

7 Found himself isolated for long spells and forced to feed off scraps. Missed a real chance to get his team back in front before slotting match-winning penalty.

On for the injured Walker 10 minutes into the second half and gave his side much needed composure.

PETER HARING 7: Replaced Roberts in a bid to bring some control back into the midfield area and did just that. AIDY WHITE 4: Late sub in normal time for Wighton and won the decisive penalty.

EUAN HENDERSON 2: On for Olly Lee in the first half of extra-time and was lively.

ANDY IRVING 1: Came on for the last few minutes for the injured Halliday.

SUBS: STEVEN NAISMITH 7:
