Celebs are back.. and so are the bugs
Celebrities face cockroaches in cages after abseiling to haunted castle
It’s not just the ghostly ghouls this year’s I’m A Celebrity campmates have to contend with – the infamous creepy crawlies make a return.
Things look very different this series as 10 famous faces face their fears at haunted Gwrych Castle in north Wales rather than in the Australian outback, due to coronavirus restrictions.
But one thing remains the same – the bugs and critters.
In their f irst trial , all 10 celebrities arrive at The Gates To Hell – and ex- Coronation Street star Beverley Callard admitted she was feeling a “little apprehensive”.
Hosts Ant and Dec greeted the stars and told them to work as a team to win 10 stars – with every token worth a meal for camp.
The celebrities were locked into 10 cages and work as a team to pass 10 stars from one side to the other.
Soap star
Shane Richie passed it to fellow actor Jessica Plummer as cockroaches and crickets rained down on them. Jessica then passed the star to blogger mum Giovanna Fletcher. “It’s down my knickers.” she squealed as cockroaches crawled over her. “Pack it in, will you,” said Vernon Kay, as mealworms landed on the presenter.
Dancer AJ Pritchard took the star from him and passed to Paralympian Hollie Arnold, who passed to Beverley.
However, she struggled to move the stars on.
Radio 1 DJ Jordan North, TV presenter Victoria Derbyshire and Olympian Sir Mo Farah complete this year’s line-up.
Earlier, Vernon, 46, Jessica, 28, Jordan, 30, Giovanna, 36, and Victoria, 52, had to make their entrance by abseiling down a cliff.
They then had to work together with Shane, 56, Beverley, 63, AJ, 26, Hollie, 26, and Mo, 38, to retrieve their rucksacks, which were padlocked to the cliff.
Any celebrity who fai led would not have their kit for the first night.
Previous winners of I’m a Celebrity since it began in 2002 include Tony Blackburn, Scarlett Moffat, Christopher Biggins, Joe Swash and Harry Redknapp.
