Fury at touts’ £2k Scotland Euro tickets

Fans told to buy from official sources

- ■ Paul Drury

Ruthless ticket touts are cashing in on our Euro dreams – by charging fans £ 2000 to see Scotland play England at Wembley.

The outrageous sum was listed yesterday on the website of Live Footbal l Tickets who of fer hard-to-find briefs for big matches.

It was just hours after Steve Clarke’s men won the right to play in the Euro 2020 Finals in a heartstopping play- of f against Serbia.

Uncertainty surrounds the number of off icial tickets the Tartan Army will receive for the three games they are guaranteed to play – Croatia and the Czech Republic at Hampden Park, on June 22 and 14, and England in London on the 18th.

It is understood that as many as 14,400 briefs have been held back by Euro 2020 organisers Uefa for visiting fans at the home of English football.

But with the Scottish Football Association due to confirm exact numbers, there will never be enough official tickets available to satisfy demand from north of the Border.

It will be the first time since the World Cup in France in 1998 that Scotland mmen’s team have mm an aged to qualify or a major tournament.

A whole generation of fans are now looking forward to experiencing the thrill of taking part in the main event after scraping through the qualifying stage.

As a result, supporters will be driven into the arms of touts who charge exorbitant amounts for sporting events fans are desperate to see.

The cheapest “official” ticket is 50 euros, around £ 44.85.

Website live football tickets. com was advertising the most expensive ticket for the clash yesterday at £1500 per VIP ticket on the “short side” of the ground. A £20 DHL delivery fee is added plus a whopping £ 450 “service fee” and tax, taking the total to £1970.

Those wanting to go in the Scotland end were told they couldn’t just buy a single ticket, with the site charging a total of £1960 for two.

A banner which flashed across the screen said yesterday “234 people have already bought tickets for this match on our site”.

Covid-19 restrictions currently prevent fans attending any games at UK football stadiums.

Potential buyers were warned that they would not received a refund if the Euro 2020 ties proceed behind closed doors.

The website states: “Sales are final. No cancellations.” Callers to the number on the website are answered with, “The user you are trying to reach is unavailable.”

Tam Ferrie, Honorary Chairman of the East of Scotland Tartan

Army said: “This is disgusting. Firms like this are simply trying to cash in on the euphoria of us qualifying.

“We see it all the t ime with music concerts, selling out within minutes then tickets suddenly appearing on resale sites.

“I would caution everyone about giving their credit card detai ls to anyone offering Wembley tickets on the internet – they may not even have them.”

Meanwhile, Scotland’s national clinical director Jason Leitch said he was “relatively confident” fans will be able to attend Euro 2020 games in Glasgow.

But he refused say the matches would be played in front of a full house. Appearing on BBC Radio Scotland’s Off The Ball, he added: “It’s just still too unpredictable to know what June will look like.”

An SFA spokesman said: “The SFA advises all supporters to purchase Euro 2020 tickets from official sources, either through Uefa or the Scotland Supporters Club allocation.”
