Unique chance to celebrate Burns
Join NTS event and help charity
The National Trust for Scotland is inviting you to join a new celebration of the Bard, with a virtual evening of music, song, poetry, whisky and some great Scottish banter – streaming live from Robert Burns Cottage in Alloway on Saturday, January 23, at 7pm.
Hosted by DJ and presenter Edith Bowman, the Burns Big Night In promises music, song, poetry, whisky and some great Scottish banter.
Burns Cottage is one of the treasures looked after by the National Trust for Scotland and maintained for future generations to visit and enjoy.
The humble thatched cottage was the birthplace of Scotland’s national poet on January 25, 1759. Now, more than 250 years later, it will become the venue for an extraordinary night of music and entertainment as we raise a toast to the Bard while raising money for the charity that safeguards his legacy.
The little cottage and nearby Robert Burns Birthplace Museum is a place of treasures, including the original transcript of Auld Lang Syne.
It will also be the magical setting for an authentic and memorable party to honour the Bard, with all proceeds helping the National Trust for Scotland, the conservation charity that looks after some of our nation’s most iconic places and the treasures of our cultural and natural heritage.
Join the party on Saturday, January 23, as we tak’ a cup o’ kindness in the company of friends for a celebration of Burns and Scottish talent. There will be live music from artists including Talisk.
Then there is a cocktail masterclass courtesy of The Glenlivet and some exclusive insights into the life of Robert Burns from National Trust experts.
These and other very special guests will bring the traditional Burns Supper to life, including the world-famous Address To A Haggis.
Host Edith Bowman said: “Burns Night has always been important for me but even more so when living south of the Border.
“Hearing a verse from Tam O’Shanter or a Toast To The Lassies makes me feel proud to be Scottish. I jumped at the chance to host the National Trust for Scotland’s Burns Big Night In.
“The charity does such important work caring for Burns Cottage and many artefacts from his life and that’s why I’d urge everyone to buy a ticket for this fabulous virtual event.
“Not only will they be entertained by some of Scotland’s finest talent but they’ll also have the opportunity to protect Burns’ legacy for generations to come.”
The Burns Big Night In is a way to enjoy your own Burns supper at home and toast Scotland’s favourite son with a fantastic line-up of entertainment.
Janey Godley, Scots Speaker of the Year, said: “In these trying times, we need to celebrate our culture now, more than ever.”
