Y-FRONTS LEFT ME ROD-FACED

Wife Penny tosses men’s undies at gig as prank

- ■ Janine Yaqoob

Rod Stewart’s wife pulled a cheeky stunt at one of his concerts by tossing a pair of men’s pants on stage. Penny Lancaster hurled the undies as Sir Rod was pelted with women’s knickers – a long tradition at gigs. Rod, 76, was baf f led by the solitary pair of “horrible” men’s pants as he sang in Las Vegas.

It was only backstage that the You Wear It Well singer discovered it was 49-year-old Penny’s prank.

Rod may have been Y-fronted but wasn’t affronted – and saw the funny side.

He said: “I’ll still till have thousands of women throwing g their knickers up. The last time that happened I was as singing away in Las Vegas and a pairir of men’s grey underpants rpants came up. They wereere really horrible. It was my wife who threw ’em up.

“She hid in the audience and threw a pair of men’s undies up.”

He isn’t the only star pelted with lingerie, of course.

It all started back in the 60s with the likes of SirSi Tom Jones, now no 80, and E ngelbert Humperdinck, H 84. 84 These days even ev Just in Timberlake, T 39, 39 gets his share. shar

But tthe novelty HORRIBLE Y-fronts has worn off on The Voice coach Sir Tom, who has asked fans to stop the practice.

Rod’s revelation came on former I’m A Celebrity winner Harry Redknapp’s podcast.

Football-mad Rod was asked what he’d prefer – a gig in front of 100,000 screaming women throwing knickers, or scoring the winner for Celtic in the Champions League final.

“Oh, give me the goal, yeah,” replied the singer.

The Harry Redknapp Show is is on every Tuesday. Guests include son Jamie, footbal l manager Frank Lampard and comic Romesh Ranganathan.
