Scott’s lucky, I got grief for six years

- Graeme Macpherson

Dav id Robertson reckons Scott Wright has got it easy – after sealing his summer switch from Aberdeen to Rangers while fans aren’t allowed into grounds.

The full-back made the same move in 1991 and says he got grief over it from Dons fans for six YEARS.

The Real Kashmir boss was punched and spat on when he made the trip back to Pittodrie.

But he hopes having football behind closed doors wil l make life easier for Wright.

Robbo said: “I can relate to the grief Scott is getting – I was just fortunate there was no social media back then!

“I was 22 when I moved to Rangers and didn’t think anyone would be that bothered. Obviously I was proved wrong.

“You get a lot of stick, particularly when you go back. Maybe Scott will be grateful there are no crowds at the moment.

“When I went back to play at Pittodrie it was pretty hostile. A couple of times I got punched in the back when I was taking a throw-in.

“You would get spat on too. It wasn’t very nice at all.

“After one game I got called by the police. They had someone in custody and asked if I ROBERTSON punched wanted to press charges but I never bothered.

“It never got any easier, it was the same reception for six years any time I played at Pittodrie.

“It’s something Scott will need to prepare himself for if fans are back in by then.”

The Rangers nine-ina-row defender reckons it would make sense if the move was made before the transfer window closes tomorrow.

He added: “It might be better for Aberdeen if they moved him on now.

“I know Derek McInnes has said he will keep playing him but I don’t think it’s healthy hanging on to a player you know is going to be moving to a rival in the summer.”

Robertson became a TV star through two hit documentaries about his new life as a boss in India and a book about his life – The Quiet Man Roars – comes out in March.

The 52 year-old added: “I went back to Rangers one time to do hospitality and Alan McLaren told me the boys had been talking about the documentary and asked if it was a silent movie!

“As a player I was dead quiet, never said much. I’m a lot more confident in myself as a coach than I was when I played, so it’s an apt title for the book.”
