Moi says pal Ajeti’s gonna do El of a well

Moi Elyounoussi has no doubt that £5million Celtic striker Albian Ajeti will eventually come good for the club.

The Swiss hitman arrived at Parkhead from West Ham in August and was expected to be a key player in their quest for 10-in-a-row and in Europe. But despite a promising start, injuries and a loss of form have hampered his progress.

His failure to impress has coincided with the Hoops’ capitulation in the Premiership title race.

Elyounoussi, Celtic’s top scorer, played alongside Ajeti for Basel four years ago and is convinced his pal has the quality to succeed.

The on-loan winger will head back to Southampton in the summer but believes Ajeti can produce his best form next season.

Ajeti has scored just five goals in 25 games with his last back in September against Hibs.

But Norway international Elyounoussi said: “There’s definitely more to come from Albian. I played with him and know what he is capable of.

“He is a quality player and had a really good start here at Celtic.

“He wasn’t really fit when he came so that took a bit of time.

“But he scored a lot of goals and then he got injured. He’s been in and out with injury problems, so it’s been a little bit difficult for him.

“But I’m really sure that he is going to show what he’s capable of when he’s needed.

“He’s a hard-working guy and I’m sure he’s going to come back

stronger. He’s a good guy, a funny guy – and a good player to have in the dressing room.”

Celtic will need more than just Ajeti hitting top form between now and the end of the season if they are to have any hope of picking up silverware.

The title is surely beyond them after losing to St Mirren yesterday but Elyounoussi insists they must give themselves the chance of a miracle by winning EVERY game between now and May.

He said: “When I look around the dressing room I only see quality.

“I agree we can’t afford to drop any more points. So hopefully we can win the remaining games and take it from there.

“We’ll try to win every game. It’s hard to put your finger on why we’ve been so inconsistent but it’s been a strange year for everyone.

“At the moment we just look ahead, there will come a time when we look back and see what went wrong.”

Elyounoussi, who has bagged 14 goals this season, has enjoyed both loan spells at Parkhead from St Mary’s but is in the dark as to whether he’ll be back in Glasgow again next term.

He said: “I came here to become a better player and I think I have.

“The players I play with and the coaching staff make me better, so it has been positive.”
