WEST OF SCOTLAND

-

New West of Scotland Football League supremo Matt Bamford admits they’ve been left with an “almost impossible task” of getting the season to a satisfactory conclusion.

Member clubs elected their first board on Monday.

But the WoSFL was not included when the Government green-lit a return a day later.

Chair Bamford said: “We are trying to get to a minimum of 50 per cent of games played before the season ends on May 22.

“But not knowing when we will be allowed to start back training, far less playing, makes it an almost impossible task without knowing how many dates we will actually have available to play fixtures.

“As a board we’re looking at all options and scenarios – but the biggest issue is not knowing if or when we will restart.

“Once we know how many dates we need, we can work back from the 22nd and set a latest date required to start training. If this is unlikely to be met, then we will have a tough decision to make.

“But the clubs will be the first to know what that decision is.”

Isaac Hayden has begged Newcastle to avoid negativity as they bid to avoid the drop.

The Magpies have won just two of their last 17 games to fall into real danger.

But Hayden insists they should be judged on today’s clash at West Brom and said: “This is our time now. Our next three games against West Brom, Villa and Brighton are crucial.

“People say there’s no realism but do they want us to panic? Be like: ‘ Oh, God we’re in a relegation battle.’ That’s not going to solve anything.”

Striker Andy Carroll added: “It is massive. Every game is a cup final and getting harder. If my chance comes, I will take it and get on the score sheet.”
