Sow the seeds for nature and Trust’s work

Enjoy benefits of new scheme

-

Lockdown has renewed our love affair with nature and given us an appreciation of green spaces and gardens.

Now you can explore your enthusiasm for Scotland’s flora with ROOTS, a new scheme from the National Trust for Scotland, custodians of some of our most treasured gardens, such as glorious Crathes Castle, near Aberdeen.

For just £6 a month, subscribers will receive a pack filled with gardening goodies, stories about Scotland’s plant life and expert tips from Trust gardeners every six weeks.

Six times a year, the packs will also include Scottish seeds, so you can grow your own piece of Scotland at home and when you buy a subscription for yourself or as a gift, you will be helping the Trust to safeguard Scotland’s heritage for the future.

You don’t need to have green fingers - or even a garden - to explore an appreciation for flowers and plants. All you need is a willingness to get your fingers muddy.

The first pack contains Viola riviniana - wild violet. Steeped in folklore, you’ll learn about these delicate blooms, one of the most subtle delights of Scotland’s woodlands and hedgerows.

Head Gardener Chris Wardle says: “By joining ROOTS, you’re standing with a long line of people throughout the ages who have cared for and protected Scotland’s unparalleled landscapes, wildlife and heritage.”

Subscribers to ROOTS will also receive regular emails in-between packs filled with exclusive videos from Trust gardeners with their top tips and twice a year there will be exclusive ROOTS events for subscribers.

Plant a little piece of Scotland at home, whilst supporting the National Trust for Scotland to protect and care for Scotland’s green spaces.
