We’re all going on a glummer holiday

- Jon Hebditch

You can choose your friends, but you can’t choose your family. It’s never been so true for either side of the public spat involving Harry and Meghan.

Nor, it seems, can you choose the holiday they drag you off on when you’re a child.

Princess Anne, standing beside her brother Charles, looks less than delighted to be spending her sixth birthday on South Uist on August 15, 1956.

While the Queen and Prince Philip toured the island, the young royals and Princess Margaret had a celebration picnic on a nearby beach.

They were snapped on the jetty at Loch

Skipport waiting for the short sail back to the Royal Yacht Britannia.

The tour of the Western Isles and around

Scotland was a regular summer trip for the royals.

And they often said they felt most relaxed onboard Britannia. One ex-sailor described how the Queen Mother used to frequent the mess bar to drink her favourite gin and Dubonnet – then personally cook bacon and eggs for hungry crew members.

A balloon tribute has been paid to a “one- in- a- million” Scots dad after his sudden death.

Dylan Mitchell passed away on Monday, leaving behind three- year- old son Haydn.

He was only 22 and has been hailed by pals as a “devoted father, son and brother” who was known for his love of Celtic. Last night, his heartbroken friends and family gathered at Glasgow’s Helenslea Park and set off f ireworks and released hundreds of green, white and orange balloons in his honour.

The crowd clapped and cheered as music played and he was fondly remembered.

People took to social media to praise the tribute to Dylan.

On Facebook, one person wrote: “Was beauti ful , guys, did him well proud.” While another commented: “Sending all my love.”

The young dad also played for football team Chryston AFC, who said they were devastated by his sudden passing.

Loved ones paid tribute to Dylan. Devastated family members said: “Love you forever. We will look after the wee man for you and keep your memory alive. Uncle Darren and Auntie Stacey.”
