Crawf’s Pars are all Wight

Dunfermline ..... 1 Morton............... 0

Stevie Crawford praised his Pars stars after they came out of Covid cold storage to dump Morton and jump back into second.

Dunferml ine were forced into isolation after a virus outbreak at East End Park which saw clashes against Raith and Dundee cancelled last week.

Despite being forced to “be creative” with limited numbers at training, Crawford’s side showed no ill- effects as they swept aside Morton in Gus MacPherson’s first game in charge.

Crawford had special praise for Craig Wighton who dusted himsel f down from a 20th-minute penalty miss to head home the only goal.

He said: “I’m delighted. The big thing for me was

the performance. We didn’t look unfit, there were boys out there who maybe didn’t feel great but they never showed any signs to Morton because they’d have jumped on that.

“Craig was brave enough to go up and take the penalty. He kept putting himself in goalscoring positions and it was a great goal.”

Wighton had his head in his hands in 20 minutes when Aidan McAdams blocked his spot-kick then tipped his rebound on to the bar having himself conceded the penalty for hauling down Scott Banks.

There was no mistake from the hitman in the 44th minute though as he headed powerfully beyond McAdams from Dom Thomas’ pinpoint cross.

Morton created little and Kalvin Orsi’s weak header in 88 minutes was their only effort on target.

MacPherson said: “I’m disappointed to lose but reasonably pleased with how we competed.”
