Signs are good for Mackay

- Alasdair Fraser

Malky Mackay confidently predicted a first win for Ross County was looming.

The Staggies manager insists they’re improving all the time despite their gruelling start against six of the best.

Yesterday’s point against Hearts made it three draws from matches against the Old Firm, Aberdeen, the Edinburgh sides and Euro qualifiers St Johnstone.

With a little more luck, County might have snatched full points but they showed character in coming from behind and holding out for a draw.

Mackay said: “We were playing against the team of the moment, who have a fabulous squad and are flying in the league.

“They came here with a change of formation from the one that has been serving them well.

“I felt we coped with that

MACKAY encouraged and it was a good game. Again we’ve gone toe-totoe with one of the best teams in the league.

“We’ve had the Old Firm Aberdeen, Hibs and Hearts now over the last few weeks and we’ve created good chances against them all.

“The goals were excellent and we could have nicked the win at the end.”

The Staggies now have a run of games against the sides likely to be around them in the table and Mackay said: “I would hope a win isn’t far away.

“We’ve had a real run against top clubs but we’re in games right to the end.

“I’m seeing signs. If we keep playing like that, we will be fine.

“We’ve had 12 players in and 16 out, with everybody getting to know each other and debuts every week.

“Hearts were throwing everything at us so I’m delighted at the way they’re applying themselves and listening to what I want them to do. We’ll get there.”
