Ryan conned ref and put my Buddies in spot
Jim Goodwin says Ryan Porteous conned referee Kevin Clancy and bought a penalty for Hibs.
The St Mirren gaffer was delighted with his team’s display after they earned a deserved draw against the Premiership leaders.
But he felt they merited more and said the penalty given against them when Matt Millar was penalised for grappling with Porteous with the score at 1-1, was unfair.
He said: “The big talking point for me is the penalty.
“I hate moaning all the time but that’s an extremely soft penalty.
“There is a little grappling but before Porteous goes to ground, Matt moves his arms out to the side to prove he’s not touching him. Porteous has a habit of winning cheap free-kicks.
“Some might say he was clever but the referee needs to see what’s going on and not give the penalty.
“There’s a real frustration because I think we could have won the game today if that hadn’t gone against us.
“We’ve had three goals disallowed in the last three games, a penalty against us today and these decisions are costing us points.”
St Mirren were excellent in Leith and no-one would have begrudged them a victory.
Eamonn Brophy put them in front with a brilliant solo goal but a four-minute period in the second half got a Scott Allan-inspired Hibs in front.
But the Buddies rallied and skipper Joe Shaughnessy got their equaliser with two minutes to go.
Goodwin said: “In that first 15 minutes of the second half things could have got away from us but I’m pleased my players gave everything right up until the end.
“It’s a really well worked goal and Joe has no right to be there but he has got that determination.”
