Webby will not run out of steam

- Queen’s Park v Montrose League One, Today, Firhill, 3pm

Graham Webster says the boffins in Montrose’s ranks now accept his stunning goal streak stands.

But he’d happily see his mantle as the SPFL’s most consistent scorer wiped out if he’s got three points to console him heading home today.

Webby has netted in every one of his last eight games, even getting two in last week’s draw with Falkirk after a missed penalty fired him up.

The winger quipped before that two- goal show he’d been taking stick off the Links Park boys his streak was scunnered after injury sidelined him the previous Saturday.

But he said: “I don’t think they’re disputing it any more because I said to them the run is still going and I saw another article saying it.

“Absolutely they’re giving me it now, I am not letting them take it away! Hopefully I get another one.

“It was not as if I missed the game other than actually being injured.

“The boys are back in their place so it’s all good.

“I had a similar run back in 2015, I’d scored seven out of 10 games.

“Then I went quiet and stale so I hope that doesn’t happen this year! It’s been great getting on the scoresheet but I want to be picking up three points, not just scoring.

“I would be happy enough not to score and we pick up three points. The biggest frustration last week was letting in two late goals.”

Queen’s are still unbeaten and defender Tommy Robson reckons loan capture Luca Connell could be key in preserving that.

The 20-year-old has played barely 40 minutes after arriving from Celtic but got an equaliser last week that inspired his side to victory.

Robson said: “He is going to be a big one for goals hopefully. Even the game before that, you can see he’s going to create chances.

“He’s got a bit of everything – his f irst touch, his f inishing, his passing, it’s top drawer. He rarely makes a mistake.”
