Dapo is a proud Scot

-

Dapo Mebude says he’s fully committed to Scotland – even though he’s still eligible to play for England and Nigeria.

The young striker was born in London to Nigerian parents before moving to Glasgow at the age of 10.

He has represented Scotland at youth level and has now been handed an Under-21 call-up for next week’s Euro qualifier against Denmark.

The youngster, who left Rangers for Watford in the summer and is now on loan at Wimbledon, insists he’s a proud Scot. And he dreams of one day pulling on a dark

blue shirt alongside young brother Dire who is at Manchester City.

Dapo said: “I grew up in Scotland so I’ve always felt that connection with the country.

“Every time I pull on that shirt I’m so proud and I give my all for Scotland.

“I’m happy to be in the Under-21 squad because I’ve been involved at all of the age groups from Under-16.

“Hopefully, I can go one step further and play for the full team too. I’m eligible for England and Nigeria through my parents.

“But I haven’t spoken to any other nation and I’m happy playing for Scotland. I speak to Dire a lot, giving him little bits of advice. As siblings we’re really close.

“It’s hard to see each other because of our schedules so we haven’t met since I moved to Watford.

“But I’m hoping my family can come down to London at Christmas and we can all get together.

“Dire is loving it at City. There isn’t a better place for him to develop because the standard is so high.

“He’s in a good place and just has to stay humble and grounded. Hopefully, we can play together for Scotland one day. Maybe he’ll get an Under-21 call-up soon too.”
