Scott a big fan of blur

- Steven Mair

Scott McTominay admitted his match-winning heroics were all a blur as he put Scotland in pole position for a World Cup play- off spot.

The Manchester United star bundled in his first goal for his country deep into injury time to snatch a vital 3-2 win over Israel.

But he reckons people watching at home knew more about it than he did – right down to how long was left.

McTominay said: “It’s not the best one I’ll score but in terms of importance it’s amazing.

“I can’t put it into words. It came at me pretty quick, it was bouncing ... I don’t know what minute it was but it’s one I’ll never forget.”

The stand-in defender admitted boss Steve Clarke had urged his side to wake up after their dozy firsthalf show left them trailing.

McTominay said: “Yeah, (Clarke said) ‘we need to wake up’. We weren’t there, they were more aggressive, alert and compact.

“We knew it, we didn’t need telling off or anything like that, we had to wake up and in the second half we did.

“First half we were so poor, but in the second hal f it was complete domination.

“That was my opinion on the pitch, I thought we were extremely good and created numerous chances.”

Emotional McTominay dedicated his winner, which came after Lyndon Dykes atoned for his firsthalf penalty miss by hauling Clarke’s men level, to his Scots grandparents, without whom he wouldn’t be pulling on the dark blue.

He told Sky Sports: “Do you know what, it was my grandad’s birthday on Monday, I knew that I had to score for his birthday.

“That was one for my grandpa and gran who started it all.”
