Ruben’s late night travesty

-

Shellshocked Dean Smith said Wolves’ stunning late fightback to beat Aston Villa was “a travesty”.

A 95 t h- m i nu t e deflected free-kick from Ruben Neves completed the incredible fightback as the visitors won the West Midlands derby 3-2.

Wolves had looked down and out when Scotland star John McGinn added to Danny Ings’ opener midway through the second half.

But in a dramatic final 10 minutes, Wolves scored three times to seal a third straight Premier League win. Romain Saiss stuck from inside the six-yard box before Conor Coady bundled in the equaliser and Neves sealed it at the death.

Villa boss Smith said: “I’m still trying to process it, it’s a travesty. Wolves

are a good team but I thought we were the better team today.

“I find it difficult to explain because it should have been a victory.”

Wolves gaffer Bruno Lage said: “This is a special day, a good day for all of us, the club, the players and the fans.”

Misfiring Man City were far from their best but still saw off Burnley in a 2- 0 win at the Etihad.

Bernardo Silva struck early for the hosts before De Bruyne’s curling strike in 70 minutes sealed it.

Chelsea returned to the top of the league thanks to a Ben Chilwell strike in a 1-0 win at Brentford. The European champions saw off late pressure from the Bees to grind out the win.

S o u t h amp t o n ’ s Armando Broja scored in a 1-0 win at home to Leeds as the Saints secured their first three points of the season. Norwich picked up their second point of the season in a 0- 0 draw with Brighton.
