heads down and run our own race. When you do that and you keep improving then you see where you end up.

“We are just beginning and whatever we do now, I know we will be better.

“We are beginning to see a foundation for what we are trying to build.

“That doesn’t excuse us not winning games but that for me is the reality.

“I know that we will be a much better team as the season goes on. The players will get even more understanding and belief in what we are trying to do.”

Postecoglou praised the support for backing his players with a belief that they are on the road towards success.

He said: “We are a l lowed to enjoy ourselves. The fans have been outstanding,

“I’ve not got a great gauge on what the general feeling is about me. Everyone I’ve seen on the street or the stadium has been very supportive of me and what we are trying to do.

“On days like this we want to send them home happy and repay the faith they have shown in us.

“A lot of that support is a leap of faith as we’re not flying in terms of results but they can see what we’re trying to do.”

Postecoglou reserved special mention for Tom Rogic, who was a huge influence on his side and he also had warm words for Jota and Turnbull.

He said: “Both goals were outstanding. The ball through from Tom Rogic for the first goal was brilliant and Jota did well to show the composure to put it away.

“David has that in his locker, he can put one into the top corner so that was nothing new.

“The side worked hard but it was Tom Rogic who was providing that Xfactor which we needed.

“David took that over in the second half but I was pleased that he got his goal and his general all-round play was good.

“Tom finds space when we need it and the game is tight and physical. He’s

just one of those players where the game slows down when the ball is at his feet.

“It’s not an easy place to come and try and control the game but we managed to do that.

“Motherwel l have made a decent start to the season but I thought we were in control.

“We held the bal l comfortably, scored two good goals, created chances and Joe Hart didn’t have a significant save to make.

“We’ve been making steps forward, we are a lot more settled. All of the players have been here now for at least one month so we’re not throwing them in.

“We’re not giving guys debuts and everyone is a bit more comfortable and they all want to play.

“Everyone just seems more settled for us and what lies ahead.”

Turnbull admitted he didn’t want to milk the moment after finding the net against his old club.

He said: “Everyone knows what kind of club Motherwell are and how they helped me when I was younger so I wanted to be respectful.

“I knew beforehand I wouldn’ t celebrate because I spoke to my family about it.

“They were asking me what I’d do if I scored a goal and I told them I wouldn’t, I’d just leave it.

“Obviously I wanted to score but I didn’t want to celebrate too much.

“I felt like doing it because it’s a great feeling when you score but I was delighted to put the ball in the top corner anyway. Hopefully I can score more of them in future and celebrate as I want to.”
