Five years before his election as US president, Trump was to be our firstever interview but it very nearly didn’t happen.

We had hired a crew to film him in New York and I asked him questions down the phone line. The crew were then supposed to send the interview back to Glasgow via satellite but somehow it got lost. It looked as if it was going to be a disaster.

Luckily, it all came together.

He said he’d buy me a beer next time he was in Scotland. He never did – probably because Rona p***ed him off in his second interview!
