Johnson insists monarch is fine after medical tests

The Queen is on “very good form”, Boris Johnson insisted today after the 95-yearold monarch was advised to rest for the next two weeks.

The Prime Minister revealed he had spoken to the monarch af ter Buck ingham Palace conf irmed she would only undertake “deskbased duties”.

Johnson said: “I spoke to Her Majesty and she’s on very good form.

“She’s just got to follow the advice of her doctors and get some rest and I think that’s the important thing.

“I think the whole country wishes her well.”

The developmen­t came last night after the Queen underwent tests in hospital last week and cancelled a two- day trip to Northern Ireland.

But the head of state still has the “firm intention” of leading the nation in honouring the country’s war dead on Remembranc­e Sunday on November 14.

Buckingham Palace said in a statement : “Following on from their recent advice that the Queen should rest for a few days, Her Majesty’s doctors have advised that she should continue to rest for at least the next two weeks.

“The doctors have advised that Her Majesty can continue to undertake light, desk- based duties during this time, including some virtual audiences, but not to undertake any official visits.

“Her Majesty regrets that this means she will be unable to attend the Festival of Remembr a nc e on Sa t u rday, November 13.

“However, it r ema i n s the Que en’s f i rm intention to be present for the National Service of Remembranc­e on Remembranc­e Sunday, on November 14.”

The Queen appeared cheerful when she hosted a virtual presentati­on ceremony on Thursday, awarding the Queen’s Gold Medal for Poetry 2020 to poet David Constantin­e.

Speaking from Windsor Castle during a video call, she joked with the writer, saying of his award: “Do you put it in a cupboard?”
