Ange backing hitman Gio to bounce back

-

missing a gilt- edged chance at the death.

But boss Postecoglou refused to blame the £2.5million hitman and says he can rediscover his form in Hungary.

The Celtic gaffer was frustrated at only taking a point against the Lions, who beat them 1- 0 back in September.

But he refused to be too down on his side or the former Venlo frontman.

He said: “Giorgos will be disappointed but that’s the role of a striker.

“They get the limelight when they score but when they don’t, they have to dust themselves off and go again. I’m sure he’ll do that. He’ll be fine.

“He was always taking the penalty. It was my decision, he was the designated penalty taker.

“I don’t think it will knock Giorgos. The good strikers know that when the next chance comes they’ll put it away.

“It’s not about feeling sorry for yourself. He’s got to be there and take chances when they come.

“If he gets in the right area against Ferencvaros on Thursday I’m sure he’ll take any opportunities.

“It was a frustrating afternoon. We knew the challenge would be to find a way through Livi.

“A goal would have made a big difference and we got chances but couldn’t take them. We had opportunities but the boys were excellent for the most part.

“I’m sure the fans are just as frustrated as we are. At home you want to pick up maximum points and put in good performances.

“That’s two games now, this one and Dundee United here, where we didn’t take our chances.

“People will look at the end result and say we didn’t do enough. But we’d be talking about a different game if we’d scored our chances.

“We can’t dwell on it. “You won’t get a better chance to win a game than we got. It’s a penalty, a chance from 12 yards.

“I’m not sure what more we can do.”

Postecoglou refused to cite the loss of injured Tom Rogic for a lack of creat ivity at times around Livi’s penalty box.

But he admits they need a bigger squad after defender Carl Starfelt went off with a hamstring strain that wi l l be scanned tomorrow.

The Swedish defender is now a major doubt for that Europa League clash in Budapest this week.

Postecoglou said: “It’s important to get players back. We’ve lost Tom and Carl went off today but James Forrest came on.

“We have so many games in a short space of time. We need a bigger squad but it’s good to get bodies back.

“James McCarthy is fit now and available.

“We don’t have a lot of depth in midfield so it will be good to get James involved. Hopefully he gets back to the levels we know he can get to.”
