£10k reward to catch our son’s killer

10TH ANNIVERSARY OF MARINE’S MURDER ON ISLAND Parents step up bid to get justice for brutally slain Carl

- ■ Robert Firth

The parents of a former Marine murdered on a tropical island have put up a £10,000 reward to find his killer on the 10th anniversary of his death.

Carl Davies, 33, was discovered slumped in an open drain in Saint- Denis, the capital of the French territory of La Reunion in the Indian Ocean.

He had been battered over the head with a screwdriver after a night out with workmates from a ship he was guarding.

Islander Vincent Madouré was jailed for 15 years in 2017 over the killing but was acquitted on appeal two years later.

Carl’s family are convinced the killer’s identity is widely known but locals are too scared to talk.

His dad Andy, 62, who lives in Fife, said: “We’ve got the word out about the reward and it has become a big talking point on the island again.

“Someone has information. We need them to be brave and speak to the police.

“The people who killed Carl are like the Krays of the 60s. They’re extremely violent individuals and islanders are afraid to talk.

“But we’re always hopeful that someone will step up. We will never stop until we have justice.”

A coroner in the UK ruled Carl’s death was an unlawful killing.

The ex-Royal Marine was a guard

on tthe Atlantic Trader cargcargo ship, protecting iitt f rom Somal ian pirpirates.

AAndy and Maria left GilGillingham in Kent shshortly after Carl ’s dedeath to start a new life in Scotland. They have a photo of their son mounted on the wall of their home. On Tuesday Andy and Maria will mark the tragic anniversary of Carl’s death.

Andy added: “We will have a day of thought. It’s just me, my wife, our daughter and our grandchildren. “We think about Carl every day but it’s our sacred day together.”

We will never stop until we have justice
