BIG MAC FRIES ‘EM

Bowen’s raider is dish of the day in Grand Sefton

- Joe Reilly

Mac Tottie ran his rivals ragged in the Betway Grand Sefton Chase over the famous National fences at Aintree.

Peter Bowen’s 20/1 shot clearly relished the unique test as he jumped and galloped powerfully under the trainer’s son James, eventually easing to the front at the last.

Senior Citizen (9/2) came with a strong challenge down the Elbow but he could never quite reach the winner who stayed on strongly to triumph by a length with Manwell (40/1) was third.

The well-backed 3-1 jolly Cat Tiger was hindered by some bad mistakes in fifth while Grand National favourite Time To Get Up was quickly outpaced over 2m 5f and trailed home last of the 11 finishers.

Peter Bowen said: “I hope this will end up being a National horse, he’ll stay. We’ll wait and see whether or not that’s this season, he’ll have an entry anyway.

“He might come back for the Becher Chase now, we’ll see how he is. He was off 137 there and he’ll go up for today’s win so he could get into the Grand National off bottom weight.”

Mac Tottie is a general 50/1 chance for the Grand National back here in April.

Sceau Royal (4/5 Fav) eased to his third success in the Unibet Elite Hurdle at Wincanton.

Alan King’s star always travelled smoothly in the Group 2 and he surged clear two out to slam Teqany (14/1) by nine lengths under Daryl Jacob.

Rocco sprang a 40/1 shocker for Nigel Twiston-Davies in the valuable Badger Beer Handicap Chase.

The gelding cruised to the front three out and he just had to be kept up to his work by Jordan Nailor to deny Potterman (11/1) by two lengths while Hurricane Harvey (9/2 JtFav) plugged on for third.
