McCall relishing step-up shoot-out

- Fraser Mackie

Ian McCall is licking his lips at the congested Championship promotion picture.

The Partick boss loves the look of the top end of the table after Zak Rudden’s early strike beat the leaders.

Rudden moved the Jags to within two points of the playoffs but Thistle are only five off the summit now.

After hardly any action for Jamie Sneddon, the Jags keeper made a superb stop from Oli Shaw in the 90th minute to complete the Rugby Park raid.

McCall said: “I thought three points might tighten it up and there’s a real gap between top five and bottom five now.

“We were really dominant in the first half and should’ve been a couple up at half-time. Jamie had nothing to do then made a great save in the last minute. It was a great three points,

“Zak was really terrific. His movement and touch up until he got tired was fantastic.”

Rudden gave Killie too much to handle from as early as the third minute.

Ross Docherty delivered a splendid pass and Rudden chipped Zach Hemming as the goalie rushed out.

Colin Steven’s yellow sparked a dugout rammy as the Thistle bench demanded red.

Tommy Wright was fuming with the role of Jags No 2 Neil Scally. Wright said: “Others should sit and look after their own job and let the two managers sort itt out.

“I’ve no problemem with Ian if he wants to makeke claims. But it’s not the type of behaviour I’d want my benchch to do, to be nearly on the pitch.tch. It’s not a sending-off anyway.” way.”

Wright and ScalScallyly were cautioned.

An injury to linesmannesman Chris Phillips delayed the start of the second half as category six official Donaldld Baird was prepped to step up from the crowd.

Wright added:d: “We know we haven’t n’t played well.”
