Glass: We plotted our own downfall

-

Stephen Glass insisted his Aberdeen team only had themselves to blame as they crashed in a controversial encounter at Tannadice.

The Dons lost out to a late Ian Harkes goal from a corner and Glass admitted his side’s failure to deal with that had cost them dearly.

He was also frustrated that his team had the advantage when Calum Butcher was sent off for hitting out at Christian Ramirez – but that was lost after Funso Ojo was sent packing for a second yellow card after being pushed by a Dundee

United fan.

Glass said: “It’s disappointing as we were in control for the bulk of the game. More so when it went 10 v 11.

“Then a little bit of indiscipline from Funso going back to the incident probably cost us the chance in the second half to have an extra man.

“Then giving the ball away cheaply on the halfway line and not defending a corner cost us big time.

“United did less than us to lose the game although they didn’t do much to win it. With our quality we didn’t do much to win it either.

“It was probably a 0-0 every day of the week but if you give the ball away cheaply and don’t defend set-pieces you are likely to lose.”

Glass expects United to look at the Ojo incident but has insisted his team need to do their own review after back-to-back defeats.

The gaffer added: “I’m sure they will deal with it themselves anyway.

“The biggest concern for me is that we gave away cheaply on the halfway line and didn’t defend a corner.

“What Dundee United do is not for me to comment on.”

Aberdeen were without all their regular centrehalves apart from Ross McCrorie after David Bates pulled out through illness.

Jack MacKenzie did make a surprise return but went off after suffering head and ankle knocks.
