Skipper got pass marks
David Martindale was delighted Nicky Devlin proved him wrong with a wonder goal to snatch a point.
The Livingston boss did not expect such a stunning outcome when the ball dropped to his skipper on the right of the penalty box two minutes from time.
Martindale said: “I was shouting, ‘Pass it, Nicky’.
“You haven’t seen his shooting in training!
“He said he was thinking about taking a touch but he just hit it. But what a strike – phenomenal.
“Alan Forrest was unlucky with the original shot, but it was a fantastic strike from Nicky.
“Alnwick didn’t have a chance. It was straight into the netting at the side.
“It was a great goal but so was Jamie McGrath’s, so well done to the players.
“I told the boys they
deserved a point at least. It was a similar game to the one at Livingston, we were unlucky not to take anything that day.
“This time it was two great goals that got a point for the two teams.
“We created the better chances overall but there wasn’t a lot in it. But there normally isn’t, I said that to Jim Goodwin.
“It’s always one goal in it between us, unless there is a red card or something.
“If we’d left with nothing I’d have been disappointed as we played well.”
The come-from-behind draw continued Livi ’s momentum following a fraught opening to the season.
Livi haven’t tasted defeat in five Premiership matches – and four of them were away from home.
Martindale added: “That’s us five games unbeaten now, which is credit to the players. To a man they were brilliant. Everyone played a massive part in the performance.”
