It’s heart Broch in play-off

-

Defiant Fraserburgh boss Mark Cowie told his players to focus on retaining their Highland League crown after play-off heartache.

Kieran Simp s o n ’ s 65th-minute header won a real battle for the Broch but they lost the war following last week’s 3-1 reversal, with Rose now squaring up to Cowdenbeath.

Cowie said: “I have to take last week on the chin as I didn’t set up the team right, we were probably too defensive. Bonnyrigg are a very good side but there’s not much between the teams.

“We need to remember what we’ve done this season – we’ve got the town back bouncing and put a lot of smiles on people’s faces.

“But it’s not done, we now need to go up another level and we are capable of it.”

Last week’s tormenter-in

chief Kieran McGachie had Rose’s best f irst- hal f opportunity when he turned Bryan Hay inside out but sliced his effort wide from around eight yards.

McGachie again was a nuisance and his angled lob nearly caught Paul Leask out with the bounce taking it over. Sean Butcher was an inch away with a long-range drive and Paul Campbell’s header was tipped onto the post by Mark Weir.

F r a s e rbu r g h wer e hammering on the pressure with Hay’s stab somehow palmed away by Weir after a spill, but the Bellslea erupted as Simpson powered in from the resulting corner.

Ker r Young nearly cancelled it out but his glancing header was blocked on the line. The Broch threw bodies forward late on but couldn’t salvage extra-time.

Rose defender Kerr Young said: “This is a horrible place to come to. It was windy and the pitch was terrible but we got there in the end and that’s all that matters. It’ll be a hard game next week and I don’t know what to expect. We need to focus on ourselves.”
