DALGLISH SOUNESS ROBERTSON?

Adam: If Andy wins 2nd Champions League he’s up there with Scotland’s greatest-ever players

- ■ Scott McDermott Adam and Robbo at Spiders

Andy Robertson could join an elite club of Scottish players if he wins the Champions League again for Liverpool.

And Charlie Adam says if he lifts the trophy in Paris against Real Madrid on Saturday night, he’ll deserve his place alongside Anfield greats Kenny Dalglish, Graeme Souness and Alan Hansen.

The trio completed a hat- trick of European Cup wins in 1978, 1981 and 1984.

The only other Scots to win club football’s biggest club prize twice is the Nottingham Forest quartet of John Robertson, John McGovern, Kenny Burns and John O’Hare, who were in Brian Clough’s all- conquering side in 1979 and 1980.

Adam believes that if the current Scotland captain gets his hand on another Champions League winner’s medal, he will go down as one of the greatest players the country has EVER produced.

Which isn’t bad for a boy who star ted out at Queen’s Park just 10 years ago.

Adam was in the Scotland team when Robertson made his international debut in 2014 against Poland.

And he also knows about the pressures of playing for Liverpool, having spent a year at Anfield under Dalglish.

He rates Robbo as the best full-back in the Premier League and, potentially, the WORLD’S top left-back.

And as he looked ahead to the Reds’ showdown with Real Madrid next weekend, Adam said: “Andy is the best full-back in the Premier League because he’s got everything.

“He defends well, he can tackle and obviously gets forward. It’s phenomenal what this boy is doing.

“It would be brilliant for him to win two Champions League winner’s medals. “That would put him right up there with the best players ever to play for Liverpool and Scotland. He’ ll be alongside legends like Dalglish and Souness. “And getting two European Cups would make him one of the greatest-ever Scottish players. “He ’ s been to the European Championships already and is close to getting to the Qatar World Cup now with his country.

“He’s won every trophy in English ADMIRER today and has Paris to look forward to. Adam is full of admiration for how Robertson has become one of, if not the, best left-back on the planet.

He said: “If you look at where Andy has come from and how his career has progressed, it’s just incredible.

“His development has been so quick. It’s been a rapid rise but every year he’s just got better.

“Tell me, at the moment where is there a better left- back in world football?

Forget British football, it’s the world now.

“He’s getting the rewards for the football. Now he has the chance to win dedication and hard work he’s put in. two Champions Leagues. “It took character to do what he’s done

“For that wee boy who came through at Liverpool after a difficult start. The at Queen’s Park to go on and achieve that step up from Hull City would have been would be remarkable. unlike anything he’d experienced before.

“But the great thing about Andy is that “But he’s just developed and got better. he won’t stop there. He won’t rest, est, hehe’llll And now he’s probably the best left-back want to win more. in the world.”

“That’s the hunger and 8ma desire he’s got. You see that in the way he plays.”

Robertson found it difficult too break into Jurgen Klopp’s side when he signed for the club in 2017.

But his determination to make the grade made it impossible for the German to ignore him. And the 28-yearold is now a staple in a Liverpool side that has already won two trophies this season, could win another P r emi e r League title
