Gio’s facing summer of uncertainty
Everyone is talking about how big the rebuilding job will be for Gio van Bronckhorst at Rangers this summer.
But there’s too many questions to be answered at Ibrox to know for sure.
What’s happening with Connor Goldson?
We still don’t know for definite. That has to be sorted in the next couple of weeks.
It looks like Steven Davis is close to agreeing a new deal but what about Allan McGregor?
I’ve already said in Ma i l S p o r t how important it is for the club to keep these guys.
Until Greegsy feels he can’t be Rangers No.1, I’d urge him to stay.
I don’t think you can replace him and I’d be fighting to keep him.
Davo came off the bench in a European Final last week and made a hell of a difference with his composure and decision making.
So he’s still plenty to offer. On and off the pitch, it’s vital that these boys are still around.
They’ve won leagues, cups and been to two European finals. Their experience is important.
Another question is, who will bid for who at Rangers?
Will Leicester, Aston Villa or Fulham come in for Calvin Bassey? Will even bigger clubs come in – because they WILL come in this summer for the star defender.
Will bids arrive for Joe
Aribo, Glen Kamara, Ryan Kent or Alfredo Morelos? The size of the rebuild will all depend on the outcome.
We might be well into August before we know.
But Giovanni and Ross Wilson will be ready.
They will be talking to players with only a year left on their contracts.
They’ll find out a lot through these talks to help them move forward.
They won’t want Kent, Aribo or Morelos to be in the same position as Goldson is this summer.
That’s something they can try to control. Bids c omi n g in is something they can’t.
Ross wi l l have identified areas where they need to strengthen.
If, for instance, Aribo goes, he’ll have possible replacements lined up.
A key area will be at centre-back where they will need a replacement if Goldson goes, even with John Souttar joining from Hearts.
And they’ ll need another centre-forward – irrespective of whether Morelos stays or goes.
