Comet could be out of this world at Musselburgh

-

Primo’s Comet (4.16) can shoot like a star on Sunday Series Raceday at Musselburgh.

After two days of action headl ined by Epsom, attention switches to Scotland today with a couple of top ITV fixtures.

It’s evening three of the Skybet Series and Jim Goldie goes into the meeting in top form.

The wily handler has enjoyed a terrific spell and he’ll have had his eye on some of these big pots for a while.

Goldie’s double-handed in the sprint and has two outstanding efforts.

Rory will be shorter in the betting and has every chance having stayed-on powerfully to strike at Hamilton last month.

Amie Waugh was in the plate that day and takes the ride again. With the pair punished just two pounds for the win and decent Musselburgh form on the CV, there is much to like about the gelding.

But Primo’s Comet is another live contender having not had much luck in his last two outings.

Granted a smooth passage, the speedster can flash home late in the hands of the promising Shannon Watts.

Primo has won five times at Musselburgh and three of those came last year. Now back to his last winning rating of 74, the auld yin is a bet on his 58th career start under rules.

TRONADOR (5.15) is a left-field entry on the card for Gordon Elliott.

The Irish trainer is best known for his jumpers and this one was a winner at last year’s Aintree Grand National meeting.

Elliott sends Tronador to Scotland for a shot at this stayers’ prize having never got into contention last time when fourth over a shorter distance at Sligo.

He’s running from out of the handicap but Tyler Heard’s claim offsets that and, if the pilot can keep this lazy sort interested, he’ll have a shot.

There’s a worry he’s a travelling box-mate for BUSINESS (6.15) who is fancied later on the card but a chance is taken.

The Queen of Scots Stakes over seven furlongs for fillies has attracted yet another quality field.

Paul Hanagan-ridden Happy Craf, a prolific winner in Bahrain, heads the ratings on 104 and is running for the first time for Newmarket trainer Martin Smith.

However, the secondhighest rated on 103 is PEARL GLORY (5.45) for fellow HQ handler Kevin Philippart De Foy.

She was beaten less than a length in a Group 3 at Lingfield last month and can go one better.

It’s the big day at Perth with David Pipe and Tom Scudamore bidding for a third win in the bet365 Sam Morshead Gold Cup, this time with Romain De Senam.

He’s only had five runs for his current handler and they include a decent 10th in the Grand National at Aintree in April.

Both Broken Quest and Minella Trump have fair chances but Liverpool scorer EXCELERATOR EXPRESS (4.01) can defy a welter-burden.

Earl ier, FLOATING ROCK (2.55) looks very interesting for shrewd Mark Walford.

The seven- year- old toiled over 2m 4f but he looked a different sort dropped back to two miles to win decisively at Southwell last time.

Floating Rock is back over the minimum trip and can dictate affairs.
