deal early. Doncaster said: “I’m optimistic that we’ll have a sponsor in place for next season.

“It has been a difficult market but I would say Scottish football is in a very good place.

“It doesn’t do any harm that we’re going to the Euros and have an exciting competition at the top of the cinch Premiership and record viewing numbers in terms of the recent Rangers v Celtic game.

“I hope the new deal will be better financially for the clubs.”

Sky wi l l show a maximum of 60 top-flight games, up from 48 – but Doncaster said the SPFL had “the ability to take a further 20 games to market.”

Clubs could also have the chance to show up to five pay-per-view games.

Doncaster told BBC Sportsound yesterday: “We’re in the process of that at the moment.

“We issued an invitation to tender to broadcasters and we’re working through the responses now.

“Amazon are going to be out of the English Premier League market. You’ve got DAZN, who are by volume one of the biggest sports broadcasters in Europe.

“You’ve got Premier Sports, TNT. There are certainly people out there who may be short of football content in Scotland and will take an interest.”

Doncaster insists lessons have been learned over the Rangers row that erupted from the cinch deal.

The league apologised to Rangers and paid a sixfigure compensation fee.

Doncaster said: “We’ve drawn a line under it and I’m delighted with the way we’ve been able to work with all of our member clubs, including Rangers.

“It’s important we look back and see what we could have done better.”
