Leeds boss set Angus on his way to the top

- BY JAMES NURSEY

NORWICH legend Bryan Gunn admits Leeds boss Daniel Farke helped make son Angus’ career.

Former Aberdeen keeper Gunn will be in the crowd at Carrow Road today to watch son Angus try to shut out Leeds in their play-off semi-final first leg.

Scotland No.1 Gunn has had a superb season for the Canaries where he first impressed on loan from Manchester City in 20172018 under Farke.

He earned a £10million move to Southampton before returning to Norwich for £5m in 2021.

And he will head to the Euros this summer as Steve Clarke’s first-choice keeper.

Dad Bryan said: “Angus played 51 of 52 games in his loan season at Norwich.

“Daniel had the faith in him to play him in those games when he was 21-22. It gave him the opportunity to play at a good level.

“And it led to a transfer to Southampton on the back of that great season he had at Norwich.

“But Angus being a little bit younger then, I did say, ‘How come you didn’t go to the manager and say you wanted to play that EFL Cup game too’ which he missed.

“Daniel played Michael McGovern in the Cup once and Angus gave away the full attendance of 52 out of 52 because of that.”

Bryan, 60, is one of Norwich’s most popular players after almost 400 appearances for the club from 1986–1998, many in the top flight.

He added: “Norwich are definitely the underdogs in everyone’s eyes so it’s not the worst position to be in.

“They have a very difficult second game at Elland Road but with Leeds’ run of form recently, Norwich can go there and know they are not unbeatable.”
