Crash girl, 4, is fighting for life

- BY KAREN ROCKETT

A GIRL of four knocked down in a hit-and-run is critically injured in hospital.

The suspected stolen car also ploughed into a woman in her 50s, believed to be the girl’s grandmother, who was said to be “serious but stable” in hospital yesterday.

Police are hunting two youths seen on CCTV walking from the Ford Fiesta after it crashed into a lamppost in St Helens, Merseyside, on Friday afternoon.

Shocked eyewitnesses said the car raced through traffic lights then ploughed into the victims. Horrified dad-of-two Chris Lang said: “The car came through the lights – it must have been going 70 to 80mph and hit the woman and child.

“They have then smashed the car. Police and the air ambulance were on the scene within minutes.

“It was an awful scene and distressing as you can imagine. I just hope they are brought to justice for what they have done.”
