City demo blasts monster Masood

- BY PHIL CARDY

HUNDREDS of people gathered in Birmingham city centre yesterday to send the clear message: “Not in our name – Muslims oppose ISIS.”

Religious and civic leaders joined the rally to denounce terror killer Khalid Masood, who lived in the city.

People held banners saying: “Not in our name” as they condemned Masood’s murderous rampage.

The rally was organised by the Birmingham central mosque and attended by representatives of 200 mosques across the city along with the Bishop of Birmingham David Urquhart.

Former city councillor Salma Yaqoob, one of the organisers, said: “Birmingham has been portrayed as the jihadi capital of Britain so today it’s all about getting it across that it is not the case. What that man did was a vile act which is condemned by Muslims and is most definitely not in our name.”

The Bishop of Birmingham backed her sentiments and addressed the rally, saying: “After all the very negative publicity our city has had it’s very important that all the faiths come together.”
