‘Klopp’s got us all buzzing’

- BY JOHN RICHARDSON

GARY McALLISTER is loving the Anfield vibe since Jurgen Klopp’s arrival – even though it cost the Scottish great his Liverpool job.

McAllister, who was part of Gerard Houllier’s 2001 treble cup-winning side, was Brendan Rodgers’ right-hand man until the pair were axed in October 2015 to make way for the German boss.

Now as a Liverpool ambassador, the former midfielder is seeing the Klopp effect close up.

But he also feels that Rodgers, who is setting records as Celtic manager, has unfinished business in the Premier League.

“Yes I was sad at the way it ended. But I have plenty of experience and I know the nature of the game,” said McAllister.

“Jurgen Klopp’s appointment wasn’t a surprise. A lot of clubs as well as Liverpool were after him but Liverpool moved quickly.

“Once a new manager comes in he brings his own staff. I think since Jurgen arrived

there’s been a buzz.

“There have been some good performances especially against the bigger clubs. The bigger the game, the better we play.”

McAllister added: “There have been problems against teams who come and sit behind the ball.

“But there is a momentum gathering here and everyone knows what that can be like when it starts happening. It can get unstoppable.”
