VICTOR A NEW MAN AT BRIDGE

- BY GERRY COX

VICTOR MOSES has surprised even himself at becoming a first-team fixture at Chelsea – and says it is all down to Antonio Conte’s coaching.

Moses has hardly missed a game for the Blues this season, having spent most of the first four years of his Chelsea career on loan.

The Nigerian (below) returned with a bang last summer, when Conte converted the winger to a wing-back in Chelsea’s new 3-4-3 formation.

And he is quick to praise Conte’s coaching methods, according to fellow Nigerian and former Chelsea full-back Celestine Babayaro.

Babayaro, who will pull on the Nigeria shirt again alongside Jay-Jay Okocha at Star Sixes in July, said: “I was at Stamford Bridge speaking to Victor the other day and said I was amazed at how quickly he has adapted to his new role. He agreed and said it was all down to Conte. He goes through everything, so you know when to go and when to stay.

“It is the same with the whole team. He works with everyone as individuals and as a team, drills them so they know exactly what they are doing. If an opponent moves one way, they all know where they should be. He is a typical Italian coach.”

And Babayaro agrees that Conte has revived Moses’ career. The winger, 26, was signed from Wigan for £9million in 2012, but hardly started a game at Chelsea until this season.

He added: “At first, he found it difficult and went on loan to Stoke, West Ham and Liverpool. But he has found himself under Conte. He has not been out of the team, apart from when he has been injured.”
