High with fresh ideas for students

-

Schools can also take part in our brilliant Cultivation Street competition – and we have had some inspiring entrants so far.

Calum Macdonald’s External Learning Facility garden is a place where pupils can relax and work as a team.

It launched two years ago – and 50 students from Northgate High School in East Dereham, Norfolk, visit every day.

Calum, 52, said: “I give up a great deal of my time, weekends and holidays included, on the garden but get a great deal of satisfaction from it.

“I wanted to provide our students with an area they could enjoy peacefully and can demonstrate their teamwork. My plans for this year are to get lots growing in my 25ft polytunnel.

“I aim to look at a floral display in an area I have identified to commemorate the end of the Great War 100 years ago in 2018. I would also like to fill our allotments with a variety of different potato tubers.

“The biggest award I have received is the students smiling when they visit.”

There are £20,000 worth of National Garden Gift Vouchers up for grabs in our competition. We are looking for the UK’s top community gardening project and schools and best-tended streets, where neighbours have teamed up.

Visit cultivationstreet.co.uk to sign up by July 31. And follow Twitter @cultivationtstreet or facebook.com/ cultivationstreet for tips and advice.

PEACEFUL
