Tomahawk missile for Eoin’s side

- BY NEIL MOXLEY

TOM CURRAN claimed three South African scalps on his England debut at Taunton on Friday, including one with his second ball.

Now he’s warning that he will get faster still.

With figures of 3-33 from his four overs and a ringing endorsement from skipper Eoin Morgan, the Surrey right-armer insists he is more in the tank.

He said: “My debut was special. I was delighted with the first wicket – I just went off on one in celebration. If you had offered me those figures before the start, I’d have bitten your arm off.

“I’ve been quietly confident of where my game’s been.

“I worked hard in the gym over the winter and gathered a yard. You get stronger and you develop your action a little bit more.

“I’m still only 22 and hopefully I can put on a couple more yards.”

Morgan was happy with the debutant, suggesting he has a bright future.

The Dubliner said: “He’s definitely put on a yard of pace and that makes his slower balls more effective.

“Tom was very clear in what he was doing, which helps. He was certainly very impressive on his debut with a lot of nerves kicking around.

“It would be nice to give him two games out of three. But we’ll have to have a look at the conditions in Cardiff before making a decision.”

The T20 series is all-square following a controversial finale to the second game in the West Country.

Opener Jason Roy was given out obstructing the field with England on course to record back-toback triumphs before losing by three runs.
