Park your prejudices

I’m so thrilled for my friend and colleague Ruth Langsford who’s been named as part of this year’s Strictly Come Dancing line up.

She says she’s excited but also very nervous. I don’t think she’s got anything to worry about.

I’ve seen her on the dancefloor at a few dos and I can tell you that once she gets those dancing shoes on and starts shaking those amazing hips of hers, people will see that she’s not called a Loose Woman for nothing!

Spare a thought for the women in Iran who have to visit “women only parks” to enjoy everyday freedoms we take for granted – like dressing how we want, sunbathing and playing sport.

In a country where females can be disciplined by the morality police for not wearing a headscarf in public, this may sound like a concession.

But surely the concept of segregated areas to prevent sexual harassment is a pretty sad indictment of that society. Iran needs to understand it’s not parks women want – it’s respect.
