SEB COE has demanded the next generation of athletes work to fill the giant void left by departing duo Usain Bolt and Mo Farah.

The boss of world athletics knows the sport faces an uncertain future as its two biggest stars retire from the track.

But he said: “I want athletes with opinions, I want them with views.

“They have got to realise that they’ve got a sizeable part to play in this future. There’s more need for us to show we have incredible talent.

“Look at the youth that’s surfaced in these championsh­ips, it’s the youngest cohort of medallists and winners.

“But we have to make sure people know that.

“We’ve got to encourage the athletes to be themselves.”
