BURKE: PAUSE NEEDED FOR QUIET REFLECTION

- BY DAVID YATES

QUIET REFLECTION will miss her title defence in Haydock’s Group 1 Sprint Cup next Saturday – but may race on in 2018.

Trainer Karl Burke has faced a struggle to get Showcasing’s daughter, the emphatic winner of the race on rain-softened ground a year ago, ready for the six-furlong feature.

And Burke (right) conceded: “She’s not going to go. She’s in great form but she’s a week or two behind for Haydock.

“The plan now is to go for the Renaissance Stakes at Naas on September 24 and use that as a prep run for Champions Day [at Ascot on 21 October]. “She looks fantastic but we weren’t going to push her and hopefully the Naas race should come on decent ground for her.

“She ran a great race on very quick ground in the July Cup at Newmarket last year, but on soft ground, she’s very, very good, and there has been some give at Ascot the last few years.”

Quiet

Reflection, who runs in the Ontoawinner syndicate colours, has had just one run — a 10th of 12 in the Temple Stakes at Haydock in May — in 2017.

But she could return to training for a five-year-old campaign if there is not sufficient interest when she goes under the hammer in December.

“She’s got a date at the mares’ sale at Tattersalls, but we’ll see how it goes from there,” added Burke.
