Palace put Koeman on guard

RONALD KOEMAN has told his Everton bosses not to turn the Toffees into a crisis club like Crystal Palace.

Koeman is under the cosh after a terrible start following a £140million summer investment in the transfer market.

Fellow Dutchman Frank de Boer was sacked after just four Premier League matches when his Eagles failed to pick up a point or score a goal.

Koeman said: “Frank was never given a fair chance. Everyone agreed that his sacking was absurd.

“Sammy Lee, who was Frank’s No.2 and who was also my assistant at Southampton, came over for dinner the other day.

“I was stunned to hear what was going on behind the scenes of that club.

“Sometimes as a manager you are confronted with politics and financial stuff.

“At Valencia it was really messy for me. But I would say look at the amount of managers Crystal Palace have had since 2008.”

Privately, Koeman believes that the failure of Everton’s director of football Steve Walsh to land Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud is at the heart of his team’s poor start.

The Dutchman was told Giroud was on his way, and he has urged the club to try again for the

Frenchman in January.

Koeman is now hoping that he does not become a fashion victim.

He added: “Football is almost like a fashion hype.

“If one German or one Spanish manager is doing a great job, the whole world wants a German or a Spanish manager.

“It is ridiculous it works that way, but I know how the football world operates.

“The position of a manager can depend on one good or one bad result.

“It is very thin line, but I accept that this it how it works in our job.”
