You’ll be grad to hear these moneysavers
If your mates dodge the bill YOU’LL be the one liable for the lot
IT’S hard being a student in 2017. We’re a long way from my Uni days of mere lectures and partying.
Now students have to contend with ludicrously high fees and the worry of debt for decades to come. That can take the fun out of fresher’s week.
Try these tips to make the most of your cash:
Don’t be tempted by flashy giveaways with bank accounts. Go for the biggest free overdraft. And don’t hit your limit – interest could be higher by the time you graduate.
Use your student powers for free stuff! Get the NUS card and railcard – you’ll save a packet. Loads of online sites offer student discounts. But beware non uni-affiliated Facebook groups – I’ve had reports of fraudulent “free” deals on them.
After living in pokey, overpriced halls you’ll be itching to move into a house with your mates. But make sure you’re all listed on the contract and bills. You’re liable for the entire bill if your friends leave and dodge the electricity bill – get them all to pay up each month.
Never pay upfront – for anything. You won’t get cash back in a dispute. Once you have an agreement, pay by debit or credit card if you can.
Lots of increasingly convincing fraud emails are doing the rounds. As a rule, never respond to anything asking you to confirm your private details or bank account.
Most young people with a valid complaint don’t pursue it. If you’re ripped-off or scammed – from shops to student loans – Resolver can help.
