Haveron’s Glens on up-and-up

- BY ALEX MILLS RESULT: Crusaders manager Stephen Baxter

GLENTORAN boss Gary Haveron yesterday saluted his team as they got back on track at the Bangor Fuels Arena.

Haveron demand a response following his team’s horrible midweek performance against Crusaders when they were mauled 3-0 in front of live television cameras.

But striker Curtis Allen settled any lingering nerves by scoring after only 60 seconds against a struggling Ards side.

Even though it was far from a dirty game, both teams finished with only 10 men. Glentoran had Robbie McDaid dismissed, the legacy of two yellow cards, while Ards striker Jonny Frazer was shown a straight red by referee Steven

Gregg following a foul on Conal Delaney.

Haveron insisted his boys showed great character, stating: “There were a few words said after the midweek showing. I asked the boys to be big and brave. I held up my hands because I picked the wrong team for the Crues game.

“But the boys responded in the proper manner. My only criticism is we should have put the game to bed because we missed a number of great chances.

“At one nil, it was always going to be a nervy finish.”

Ryan Mayse scored the winner in DUNGANNON SWIFTS’ 2-1 win over BALLYMENA UNITED at Stangmore Park.

Barry Gray’s CLIFTONVILLE enjoyed their four win on the spin with a 2-0 victory over DUNGANNON SWIFTS at Solitude.

And Stephen Baxter’s CRUSADERS eased to a 3-0 win over Cover Rangers in the Irn Bru Challenge Cup.
