Jet diverts to Shannon as flyer ‘suffers heart attack’

- BY PAT FLYNN

A TRANSATLANTIC jet had to dump fuel over the ocean before diverting to Shannon Airport with a passenger suffering a suspected heart attack.

The Royal Jordanian flight was travelling from Chicago to the Middle East yesterday when the crew declared a medical emergency and requested clearance to divert.

Medical services were placed on standby for the flight that touched down safely at 9.43am.

Fire crews were also mobilised as a precaution to ensure the Boeing 787 Dreamliner’s brakes didn’t overheat in the emergency landing.

The passenger was treated at the airport before being taken to University Hospital Limerick.

The flight continued its journey again an hour after landing. DRAMA Shannon Airport
