Q

My daughter’s hamster appears to have had a stroke as its back legs have suddenly stopped working although she still manages to run on her wheel. Should we do anything? She’s seems OK otherwise. Fiona Roberts, Stratford, Warks Oh dear, this doesn’t sound good at all. She might have suffered a back injury or a blood clot might have blocked the blood flow to her back legs.

While she might not appear to be in any immediate pain I would be very concerned that she is going to suffer injuries by dragging herself around, and I would urge you to visit your vet immediately to get her examined and to have a serious conversation about her quality of life and whether it’s fair for her to continue in this state.
