LEO: RELIEF THE KEY WORD

-

LEINSTER boss Leo Cullen admitted he was a relieved man after watching the province earn a four-try bonus point win over Montpellier.

The French side splashed the cash in the summer as they aim to lift the European Cup for the first time, and hoped to send out a message to the continent against the three times European champs.

But Leinster had more than enough to deal with them, even without Johnny Sexton, Seán O’Brien, Scott Fardy, Jamie Heaslip and Rob Kearney.

“I feel very relieved, I’m exhausted, it was stressful watching it,” Cullen said.

“I’m pleased with things overall, especially the outcome even if it wasn’t pretty at times.

“I knew it’d be a huge challenge. For a lot of young guys to step in, they showed bravery and courage.” ENGLAND’S prodigal son Ryan Lamb outfoxed rising star Marcus Smith as Stade Rochelais edged past Harlequins at The Stoop.

Former Gloucester fly-half Lamb (below) booted 14 points and just about bested Quins teenager Smith as the French side registered a bonus-point win on their Champions Cup debut.

Geoffrey Doumayrou’s brace and further scores from Hikairo Forbes and Dany Priso sealed victory. Quins replied through tries from Charlie Matthews, Joe

Marchant and Will Collier, along with

12 points from Smith. MATT O’CONNOR saw his gutsy Tigers nick a losing bonus point – then insisted it can help them avoid their own version of Brexit.

Leicester scrapped to get something, when they could have

waved the white flag and it got them off the mark in Champions Cup Pool Four.

They have Castres at home next week before back-to-back games against Munster, and O’Connor vowed afterwards they can still have a bid say in their group.
