Dan’s fury over snub remarks

- BY STEVE STAMMERS

DANNY DRINKWATER is fuming at allegations that he snubbed England.

Boss Gareth Southgate made an SOS call to the Chelsea star last week after six players had dropped out of the squad for the friendlies with Germany and Brazil.

Midfielder Drinkwater explained that he was short of fitness and he would be better served with an intensive course of daily treatment on his calf injury from Chelsea’s medical staff.

Southgate appeared to accept his explanation – but then came the very public hints that the England boss was unhappy with the rebuff. And that has hugely angered Drinkwater, who is committed to his country and has been hoping that he can be called up for the World Cup finals next summer.

He now fears that his ambition will be dashed by Southgate. Drinkwater is incensed that his decision to miss the two friendlies has been viewed as a snub. In fact, Drinkwater has yet to reach full fitness for Chelsea
