Clingan at double for Glenavon
SAMMY CLINGAN’S glorious double strike eased GLENAVON to a 3-0 win against DUNGANNON Swifts at Stangmore Park and up to third place in the Premiership table.
Mark Sykes, the target of a number of cross channel clubs, shot the Lurgan
Blues into a first half lead, before Clingan bagged his seventh penalty kick of the campaign after Liam McMenamin had fouled Bobby Burns.
Clingan struck again with a super free kick, curling the ball around the wall and goalkeeper Stuart Addis.
The only downside was the dismissal of defender James Singleton who picked up two yellow cards.
Colin Nixon’s ARDS inched away from the basement zone with a 2-0 win at home to the ailing BALLINAMALLARD.
Gareth Tommons shot the home team ahead early on, before Michael McLellan swept in a Michael Ruddy cross in the second half. Gary Armstrong pulled one back late on.
A last gasp Lee Chapman (inset) strike earned
CARRICK RANGERS a 1-1 draw with GLENTORAN at the Loughshore Hotel Arena.
Eric Foley’s goal looked to have secured the points until Chapman struck with practically the last kick.
On Friday night Oran Kearney’s COLERAINE continued their surge at the top with a 2-0 win away to Warrenpoint Town thanks to second half goals from Ian Parkhill and
Darren McCauley.
CRUSADERS remained on the Bannsiders’ tails with a hard-fought 2-1 win against BALLYMENA UNITED at Seaview.
Matthew Shevlin shot United into the lead but Colin Coates levelled with a free header before Gavin Whyte bagged a penalty.
