WILDER IN FIGHT OVER £20M KID

- EXCLUSIVE BY BILL COOPER EXCLUSIVE BY TOM HOPKINSON

reveal that Everton chairman Bill Kenwright pushed Arteta’s name forward as a replacement for axed Ronald Koeman but went for experience and brought in Sam Allardyce.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has also made overtures to Arteta to join his coaching staff only for the Spaniard to knock them back.

Guardiola is desperate to keep him as he battles for four titles – the Premier League, the Champions League, the FA Cup and the League Cup.

Arteta is happy at City but is ambitious and would one day like to be a manager in his own right. CHRIS WILDER fears losing £20millionrated Sheffield United whizz-kid David Brooks next month.

The Blades boss is bracing himself for a bombardment of bids from the Premier League for the richly gifted Wales midfielder (below) when the January transfer window opens.

Liverpool, Tottenham and Everton, who have all monitored the 20-year-old consistently over the first half of the season, will lead the scramble for his signature. Wilder is adamant he doesn’t want to sell, but admits the final decision will be made in the boardroom.

And, even though Brooks has recently signed a new fouryear contract, he will be off if the Blades are made an offer they cannot refuse.

Wilder admitted: ”There’s a lot of off-the-record conversations, whether it be agents, or even clubs themselves asking what we are doing.

“But nothing changes from my point of view. David is not for sale because he is part and parcel of what we are doing, going forward.” JAMES McCARTHY is set to extend his stay at Everton after new boss Sam Allardyce sanctioned a new deal.

The 27-year-old (above) was unhappy with life at Goodison Park under Ronald Koeman and almost joined Crystal Palace last summer. But the Irish international is settled again, following the Dutchman’s exit and Allardyce’s arrival last month, and has been convinced by Big Sam that he still has a role to play at the club. ALAN PARDEW is lining up a move to take out-of-favour Stoke defender Glen Johnson (below) to West Brom. The former England right-back, 33, is out of contract in the summer and would be avaliable to Albion for a nominal fee.
